What happens when I contact a Licensed Insolvency Trustee?
Most people we meet never expected to be in financial difficulty. This is particularly true right now. Covid has hit hard and people who have been financially responsible their whole lives are afraid for themselves and for their families.
So what should you expect if you reach out to Vine and Williams, Licensed Insolvency Trustees for help?
- An initial first meeting to talk about your situation. This can be done by phone or video from the safety of your own home. We want to hear about your situation, what do you own, who do you owe and how much, what is your current income, and some other basic information about you and your household.
We will explain all of your options to you including bankruptcy, a proposal, or other ways you can deal with your debts without us. The choice is yours. We are here to answer your questions and explain the pros and cons of each option. No judgment, no pressure. Don’t be afraid of us and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
- You will provide us with documentation – we’ll give you a list of what we need and you start sending it to us. You can contact us if you have more questions. We give you a lot of information in our first meeting and it is normal to think of questions after that meeting. It’s not a problem if you want to meet again!
- We will finalize your documents and you will meet with a Licensed Insolvency Trustee to sign them. We are currently doing this over video with electronic signatures. Don’t worry, we’ll figure this part out with you. We will file your documents with the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy for either a proposal or a bankruptcy.
- We will notify your creditors. All collection action must stop including garnishments, even by CRA. You do not make any payments to your creditors.
How long does this take? We can be ready to file a bankruptcy or proposal within a day if you provide everything we need and you know what you want to do. The timing is really up to you. You can take as long as you need to think about it and gather information. We won’t give up on you!
